SEIVA travels through the Algarve to teach the importance of taking care of the environment

There are 60 initiatives, for the first time in 16 Algarve municipalities

A Education Week and Environmental Volunteer Initiatives (SEIVA) it will tour the 16 municipalities of the Algarve, until 4 October, with seminars, a camp and visits to infrastructure such as the Odelouca Dam and the Tavira Water Treatment Plant (ETA).

At SEIVA, 60 initiatives are planned, for the first time in 16 municipalities, 10 days, alluding to the 10 years of the Environmental Volunteering for Water project that is at its genesis.

According to the organization, "it is intended to mobilize school communities and the population in general, to reflect on the main challenges of sustainable development and the importance of their participation in decision-making processes, in order to contribute to the shared management of resources and for the deepening of scientific and didactic knowledge of teachers and other agents of education for sustainability».

During this week, 10 seminars/training actions/workshops are planned, an Environmental Volunteer for Water camp, for three days, in Monchique, 21 environmental volunteer activities and 22 visits to infrastructure and equipment for environmental education.

There will also be a short film session and seven exhibitions on environmental themes.

Europe Direct Algarve, one of the partners, will present and discuss the document #Towards a sustainable Europe until 2030», talk about the importance of languages ​​in this context and disseminate the research being carried out in the region.

 

 

On 1 October, National Water Day, two seminars are held in Olhão promoted by the Portuguese Environmental Association – Administration of the Hydrographic Region of the Algarve, under the theme “Citizen Science and Volunteering”.

During the morning, dedicated to younger people, good practices will be presented and, in the afternoon seminar, dedicated to sustainability education agents, communications from the University of Algarve and the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission on Communities and Cities will be presented. Sustainable.

These seminars will culminate in the award ceremony of “Environmental Volunteering for Water 2019”.

This initiative aims to distinguish people and entities for their commitment and work of excellence developed, in the last year, in environmental education and volunteering activities, among the various partners involved - Basic and Secondary Education Schools, University of Algarve, Centers of Ciência Viva, Associations, among others – with some being recognized for their decisive role in the operationalization of this project, as “Ambassadors of Environmental Volunteering for Water”.
