PSD/Portimão accuses PS of "dismissing Algarve" for not clarifying the ferry's situation

Social Democrats accuse Paulo Cafôfo of being a "prime minister's ventriloquist"

The PSD/Portimão accuses António Costa, prime minister, as well as the PS of despising “again the Algarve”, by promising a Funchal-Lisbon ferry “without clarifying the situation in Portimão”.

Paulo Cafôfo, socialist candidate in the Regional Elections, gave an interview to Jornal da Madeira, where he announced his commitment to António Costa «to establish the maritime connection between Funchal and Lisbon throughout the year, starting with the next Legislature».

This is a situation that deserves criticism from Carlos Gouveia Martins, president of the PSD/Portimão.

«Nothing moves us against a new maritime connection between Funchal and Lisbon, what moves us is a total lack of clarification on the future of the connection between Portimão and Funchal, which brings great benefits to the municipality and to the region at the same level. tourist, economic and human», he says.

In the case of the current maritime connection between Portimão and Funchal, this concession is fully subsidized by the Regional Government of Madeira.

But, according to the PSD, «in the scope of the responsibility that is required of any Government of the Republic in having to guarantee territorial continuity in the maritime dimension between the continent and the autonomous regions, the Madeiran PS candidate now assures that this new concession will already be fully supported by the Government and that there are talks with the Ministry of the Sea».

The Social Democrats go further and even accuse Paulo Cafôfo of being a "prime minister's ventriloquist".

The Municipal Assembly of Portimão, in a meeting held on 29 April, unanimously decided to instruct the Executive of the City Council to be responsible for transmitting the will of Portimão, and of the people of Portimão, to participate in a tripartite Commission, between the Governments of Portugal and Madeira and the Algarve Municipality, with a view to continuing the maritime connection with Funchal.

«I am fully convinced that all political parties and all Portimão mayors stand by the side of the city and our citizens in the desire to maintain the maritime connection between Portimão and Madeira and that we will not accept any forgetfulness by António Costa, from Minister of the Sea or the Socialist Party», concludes Carlos Gouveia Martins.
