Portimão promotes regular physical exercise for diabetics

The initiative is free

The community exercise program “Diabetes em Movimento” starts on the 2nd of October, at the Pavilhão Gimnodesportivo de Portimão.

This program is aimed at people with type 2 diabetes and runs until June 2020.

The supervised physical exercise sessions will take place three times a week, lasting 75 minutes, over a nine-month cycle, being guided by a qualified technician and with the presence of a nurse.

Entries are limited to 60 people, 30 more than those who participated in the first edition of this project.

The initiative is the result of a partnership between the Municipality of Portimão and the Barlavento Health Centers Group, which this year will be extended to the University Hospital Center of the Algarve.

The Portuguese Diabetics Protective Association of Portugal, the Portuguese Society of Diabetology, the Portuguese Society of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, the Portuguese Society of Cardiology and the Portuguese Society of Internal Medicine granted scientific sponsorship to this community intervention program.

The program will be coordinated by the Directorate-General of Health, through the National Program for the Promotion of Physical Activity and the National Program for Diabetes.

The initiative is free and will take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 15:00 pm to 16:30 pm. Interested parties should inquire from their family doctors or nurses about the possibility of participating.
