New season of the Orquestra Clássica do Sul starts with a concert on World Music Day

Concert will have choir of Orquestra Clássica do Sul and Rui Baeta

The new season of the Orquestra Clássica do Sul (OCS) starts with a concert next Tuesday, October 1st, at Teatro das Figuras, in Faro, in the middle of World Music Day. 

In this show, Rui Baeta, a natural baritone from Faro, joins the recent choir of the Orquestra Clássica do Sul.

Entitled “A Journey in 80 Bars”, the program for the 1st of October includes different themes and with a scenario traveling through different countries around the world.

The program begins with the opening of “Orpheus nos Infernos”, by J. Offenbach, followed by the “Duet Barcarrolle” (Tales by Hoffmann) by the same composer and excerpts from one of the most famous ballets in the world: the “Nutcracker” by PI Tchaikovsky.

The trip will continue through Persia through the work of GF Handel, “Ombra mai fu” (Serse), through India with the “Duet of Flowers” ​​(Lakmé) by L. Delibes and through Italy, through the hand of the composer G. Rossini and the his opening of “Il signor Bruschino”.

The interpretation of the aria “Vedi, le fosche notturne” (Il Trovatore) by G. Verdi closes the first part of the concert.

Songs from Austria by the Strauss brothers in “Kaiser-Waltzer”, by J. Strauss II, from Germany with the work of Gounod, “Avant de quitter ces lieux” (Faust) and from the USA and Japan with “The Stars” will also be interpreted and Stripes Forever” by JP Sousa and the “Coro dos Pescadores” (Madama Butterfly) by G. Puccini.

The work of C. Garcia, “Suite n.º 2 'pro Hermeto'” takes us to the sister countries Brazil and Portugal and we end this musical journey in Spain, with the aria “Votre toast, je peux vous le rendre” by well-known opera by G. Bizet, “Carmen”.

The concert commemorating World Music Day will be presented by journalist and pivot Lurdes Baeta and marks the official start of the new OCS season, which runs from October this year to September 2020.

«With new cycles and musical proposals, the programming of the next season maintains the focus on the dissemination of the work of composers and works of relevant historical importance, as well as the work of contemporary composers and on conquering new audiences and more spectators, offering a special attention to the children's audience», says the OCS.

Also during the month of October, concerts will be held that mark the beginning of the academic year 2019/2020 at the University of Algarve (5th at the Municipal Museum of Faro and on the 19th at the Igreja Matriz in Portimão).

There will also be the first show of the cycle “Musical Dialogues” which will be a “Classic Desgarrada”, taking place on the 10th of October in the foyer of Teatro das Figuras, the concert “Grandes Compositores Vienenses”, in the Auditório Municipal de Albufeira on the 18th , the “Eva Classical Experience”, at the Eva Senses Hotel in Faro, on the 24th, and the Chamber Music Cycle that will pass through the municipality of Silves (Igreja Matriz de Tunes) on the 31st of October.
