Folar de Olhão elected as one of the 7 Sweet Wonders of Portugal

It was the only sweet south of the Douro river to guarantee his choice

This Saturday night Folar de Olhão was elected as one of the 7 Sweet Wonders of Portugal, in the final of the competition that took place in Montemor-o-Velho.

In addition to the only Algarve sweet still in the competition, the Crista de Galo, from Vila Real, the Covered Almond from Moncorvo and the Biological Honey from the Montesinho Natural Park, in the district of Bragança, the Roscas de Monção and the Cigars were also elected as Wonders. dos Arcos, from Viana do Castelo, and the Bolinhol from Vizela, in the district of Braga.

On its Facebook page, the Municipality of Olhão thanks «to all those who, in Olhão and throughout the country, helped make the dream come true through your support and your vote».

“The best kept “secret” of Olhão is now in the mouths of the world», he adds.

The final gala declaring the 7 Wonders of Portugal Sweets was broadcast live by RTP1, from Montemor-o-Velho, in the district of Coimbra.

The initiative, which has the High Sponsorship of the Presidency of the Republic, aims, according to the organization, to distinguish “the endogenous product, the brand of the land, the preservation of the quality of ingredients and the country's capacity to innovate and develop. reinvent in their traditions”.

The final election results from the vote of the public, but a panel of experts with knowledge in the area of ​​sweets participates in the initial stages of the selection process, based on the candidates presented.

The organization of the competition had the support of a scientific council composed of several entities: Professional Cooks Association of Portugal, Association of Hotels, Restaurants and Similar of Portugal, Portuguese Association of Nutrition, Portuguese Federation of Gastronomic Confraternity; Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development, Network of Public Institutions of Higher Education with Courses in the area of ​​Tourism and Tourism in Portugal – Schools.

Since 2007, the 7 Wonders of Portugal, of Portuguese origin, Natural, At Table, Gastronomy, Beaches and Villages have been chosen.
