And how about a festival at the Marina de Albufeira to show that summer never ends?

Festival has free admission and a strong and diverse music scene

Autumn only starts this year on September 23, so the date chosen for the first edition of international festival Never Ending Summer, in Albufeira Marina, it couldn't be more accurate. From 18:00 on the 20th until midnight on the 22nd, there will be lots of music, gastronomy, handicrafts, sports, a sailing regatta, exhibitions, all to show that, in Albufeira, «summer never ends».

"Oh Never Ending Summer it brings together many ingredients and many initiatives – gastronomy, regattas, crafts, sports, a strong musical program – and its main objective is that the people of Albufeira see themselves here, because this Marina is theirs», announced João Amaral, administrator of the Marina de Albufeira, entity that organizes the initiative.

«Last year, we started with the Classic Weekend, but this time we are going much further», added João Amaral, during the presentation of the new event, which took place this Monday morning, at the water's edge, in Albufeira Marina.

One of the aspects highlighted is that of gastronomy. Or wasn't this new festival the heir of the initiative in which, precisely a year ago, the largest cataplana in the world was made, a record with the right to be registered in the Guinness book.

The Cataplana festival will thus take place in five restaurants, a few days after having completed a year since the consecration of Albufeira's gastronomy as one of the 7 Wonders of Portugal.

João Amaral, administrator of the Marina de Albufeira

Ricardo José, coordinator of Never Ending Summer, also pointed out that «the regattas have a record number of boats registered, there are already 40», while «the classic cars, close to a hundred magnificent machines, will parade around the city on Sunday». The parade starts at 11:00 am on the 22nd, at the Marina, and then travels at a slow pace through the streets of Albufeira, to return to the starting point, where the cars of other times will stay to be enjoyed by all.

But there will also be an exhibition of classic fire engines, corporations in Albufeira, Olhão, Faro and Monchique.

As for the musical poster, there is a «very strong bet» and «for all tastes», in order to «make this event memorable». Opening, on the 20th, the rock band by Iris takes to the stage. On the 21st, it will be the turn of the Anjos, with a concert that brings “a lot of surprises”. Finally, on Sunday 22, closing, time will roll back with "The Bitols", a concert in tribute to the Beatles.

In sport, in addition to the sailing regatta, there will be a march-race, a mountain biking exhibition in partnership with Extremo Sul and even demonstrations by the National Scouts Corps.

«We want people to take the colours, flavors and experiences of moments well spent from here, so that they always want to return to Marina de Albufeira», concluded Ricardo José.

José Carlos Rolo, mayor of Albufeira

José Carlos Rolo, mayor of Albufeira, stressed that with this Never Ending Summer, «what we mean is that Albufeira is a destination for the whole year». "We want, and we have made a big bet in this sense, that the activity of this tourist destination is maintained not only during the summer of the calendar, but also throughout the year".

As for the festival itself, the mayor considered that “it's a happy name and the content too. The diversity of activities is commendable and we are sure it will meet the expectations and interests of a wide range of people».

The mayor of Albufeira also took advantage of the presentation of this first edition of Never Ending Summer to make an announcement: is that the Marina de Albufeira should, soon, become more connected to downtown, with the construction of a walkway.

João Amaral, Marina's administrator, was not happy: «this is the first time that, in public, a mayor of Albufeira assumes that he will go ahead with this project, which is much desired by us», he said in statements to Sul Informação.

José Carlos Rolo revealed that «we aim to develop a set of walkways from Rocha Baixinha to Salgados. It will be with recourse to European funds and will happen in a phased manner».

The organization of Never Ending Summer belongs to Marina de Albufeira, which wanted to create a comprehensive event, thinking specifically about the people of Albufeira.

This year, whether by sea or land, there are many paths that will lead to the Never Ending Summer, which has free entry.
