Costa de Albufeira will have a network of walkways, from Rocha Baixinha to Salgados

The coast of Albufeira will have a network of walkways that will facilitate walking to the most interesting points of the coast, to be installed «from Rocha Baixinha to Salgados». The announcement was made this Monday by the president of the Chamber José Carlos Rolo, during the festival presentation Never Ending Summer.

And the place chosen to make the announcement was very appropriate: one of the future walkways will precisely link Albufeira Marina to Peneco beach, thus creating the much desired easier pedestrian connection with the old town.

«We are starting, in the Chamber, a project to create, along the coast of Albufeira and wherever possible, walkways to visit the beaches or, for example, the olheiros of Olhos d'Água, which people do not know why not they manage to get there», explained the mayor. One of these walkways, he announced, will allow "the direct passage from Peneco to the Marina de Albufeira".

For now, President José Carlos Rolo still does not know the amount of investment, since he explained to the Sul Informação, «we are still going to do a preliminary study, to see where the walkways can be built».

The idea, he clarified, is not to build continuous walkways, but rather to build some sections, even to «discipline access to more sensitive areas, to prevent people from stepping on vegetation and cliffs».

João Amaral, manager of the Marina de Albufeira, could not be happy. "It was the best news they could have given me today," he assured, in statements to our newspaper.

«It's a dream we've had for many years, we did a project in 2010, which we paid for and offered to Albufeira Town Council». But it never made any progress, despite the administrator's view that "a more direct connection" between the marina and the city is still lacking.

«This is going to be an icon, everyone will want to come to Albufeira to take this seafront promenade.!», he added.

Whenever we speak, I try to throw this challenge to the president. But this is the first time that the president of the Chamber has taken on this project publicly. I had already talked to him about the topic, and with previous presidents, but there was never a public commitment. I leave here much happier», concluded João Amaral.

The network of footbridges on the coast of Albufeira will be applied for European funds and will be built in a phased manner.
