Well of Várzea de Odeceixe “gains” new inhabitants

Well was reclassified and now surrounded by iron sculptures

On Friday, the Aljezur City Council inaugurated the reclassified Poço da Várzea de Odeceixe, a "living place" that now features an artistic installation by the sculptor Carlos Oliveira Correia.

The sculpture “O Poço da Várzea de Odeceixe”, consists of several iron figures of a man sitting at the well, two goats drinking from a drinking fountain, a girl guarding the goats, a donkey and its owner on the way to the well, "that portray the environment that lived in the past in this locality", according to the municipality.

With this work, the space “recovers its dignity and honors its past in local history”.

«Recreating the past is living it again and these sculptural elements will revive memories that we keep and want to perpetuate», concluded the City Council of Aljezur.
