Olhão exposes Algarve legends and enchantments

Entrance is free

The traveling exhibition “Algarvian Legends and Enchantments” opens this Thursday, August 1st, at the Municipal Museum of Olhão.

The project “Algarvian Legends and Enchantments” is promoted by the Algarve Museum Network (RMA), of which the museum from Olho is part, and aims to enhance the Algarve's oral heritage, namely the legends, an intangible expression of the regional identity.

The legends are intrinsically related to the history of the regions and their cultural identity, being an oral manifestation transmitted from generation to generation that combines real facts with fanciful facts, but which presents itself as being true or founded in reality, being associated with a place and determined time.

Oral heritage is the cultural expression of a people and their modus vivendi, making known their imagination, culture and traditions.

Within the scope of the Education for the Algarvian Heritage Legends and Enchantments project, carried out by the RMA Education Group, around 800 children aged between 3 and 6 years old, who attended kindergartens in the municipalities of Loulé, Olhão , Tavira and Vila Real de Santo António were challenged to build and illustrate our legends using a box as a starting point.

This exhibition is a selection of these works, which now arrives in Olhão. Admission is free.
