There are theater teachers, actresses and dancers and even the commissioner of the “365Algarve” program. There are 21 women, united by culture and roots in the same region. All have «a great » and accepted the challenge of participating in a performance: a moment of «feminine communion». It will be on the 5th, 6th and 7th of September at Festival F, in Faro.
As last year, the 2019 edition of this event will have, in addition to the musical component, a theater program, under the responsibility of LAMA – Algarve Arts and Media Laboratory.
João de Brito, actor and artistic director of this company, explained to Sul Informação where the idea of doing this performance came from.
«These are women who crossed paths with me in my artistic life. Only one is not, which was advised to me by someone else. I have my first theater teacher there, people who do cultural programming, who are actresses, dancers, dance teachers. That's why I thought of bringing together so many people with cultural influence in the Algarve».
And who are they? Ana Beatriz Lopes, Ana Borges, Ana Cristina Oliveira, Anabela Afonso, Ana Lopes Gomes, Catarina Bento, Carolina Cantinho, Carolina Santos, Clarisse Ricardo, Filipa Rodriguez, Joana Martins, Laura Pereira, Leticia Blanc, Maria Adelaide Fonseca, Maria João Gonçalves, Natasha Bulha, Nelda Magalhães. Rita Rodrigues, Tânia Silva, Teresa Coutinho and Teresa Henrwhat?
Anabela Afonso, for example, is the commissioner of the “365Algarve” program, while Nelda Magalhães and Teresa Coutinho are actresses.
What is certain is that they all have links to the Algarve and, above all, «an artistic thought about what is done in the region», guarantees João de Brito.
“It was very difficult to bring them together and that's why I also believe it will arouse greater curiosity. I had this daydream and, look, I got it! I also thought: how am I going to bring people to a closed place, in a festival that takes place on the street? That's how the idea came up», explained the actor.
The choice of performing a performance only with women, recognized João de Brito, was also "symbolic".
«OF is from Faro, but it can also be F for female. At this time when we are trying to achieve gender equality, which is increasingly fair, I thought that this could be the smallest part of my contribution to that fight. I think that, because it is different, it will be a performance that will attract the public. There are 21 women with a big , I guarantee that», he said, between laughs.
For this moment, which will be special and will take place, during the three days of the festival, always at 21 pm, in the Morcego room of Associação de Músicos, there will only be two rehearsals. Therefore, all performance still doesn't have a well defined path.
«It will still be explored, but the approach will be related to the dichotomy between the time of reading a book and being online. this thing between being online, to show the world that you are there, and, on the other hand, the fact that you can travel around the world through words, by reading a book», he explained.
«It will be almost a live exhibition, with the door always open. People come in, see and can leave whenever they want,” he added.
The F's theater program includes three more shows, all to be shown on Palco Ria, at 20 pm. On the first day, “Accepts”, by Marta Costa, will be a show by clown, «without speeches and with a lot of mime».
In the second, the new circus “A Tempo” will take to the stage and, in the last, “The big ones don't have ideas”, by Companhia Fértil, a show «remarkably theater».
All this programming aims to “bring people to the Festival earlier”.
“People will inevitably go more towards music: I'm aware of that, but I believe we'll also be able to attract people to the theater,” concluded João de Brito.
