Volunteers collect a ton of garbage along Alcoutim's roads

Action involved 15 volunteers and the municipal executive

Close to a ton of garbage, among which «a large amount of plastic objects stood out», was collected by volunteers during the first action of the awareness and cleaning campaign “For me, For All, For Alcoutim without garbage”, which took place on Saturday.

Over the course of a day, a few dozen volunteers, many of them beneficiaries of “Dr. João Dias”, Osvaldo Gonçalves, mayor of Alcoutim, and councilors Paulo Paulino and José Galrito, traveled approximately 28 kilometers of national road 124, between Martim Longo and Alcoutim, and some urban areas in the town of Alcoutim to clean up accumulated waste on the verges.

The walk had the collaboration of the Alcoutim Volunteer Firefighters, the Republican National Guard, the 1107 Grouping of Alcoutim Scouts, the Alcoutim Pereiro Parish Union, the Martim Longo Parish Council, the Giões Parish Council and the company ALGAR.

This action is part of a campaign that includes cleaning actions, but also direct awareness initiatives.

«The municipality of Alcoutim promotes this campaign aimed at the population in general, with the aim of enhancing the performance of a more active and conscious role by citizens in the context of the correct management of waste produced, but especially young people», summarized the Alcoutim Chamber.
