Four teams compete in the women's handball tournament in Portimão

Portimão hosts Tournament of the Four Nations and National Children's Meeting

The women's national handball teams from Portugal, Germany, Spain and France will compete in the U-4 Four Nations Cup at Portimão Arena. This will be the high point of the party that this municipality of Barlavento will dedicate to this sport, from Thursday to Sunday, which also includes the National Children's Meeting, which will define the national champions of this level.

On Sunday, Friday, four young teams will compete in a free-entry tournament that, at least in the case of Portuguese athletes, will serve as preparation for the European Championship, which will take place between the 11th and 21st of July in Gyor, Hungary, and where the national team will be part of a group with Norway, Romania and Sweden, three of the best teams in the Old Continent.

A day before the start of the Four Nations Cup, a meeting begins that will bring together around 1200 participants from 22 men's clubs and 24 women's clubs, «among handball players, coaches, managers, referees, volunteers and members of the organization». according to the Chamber of Portimão.

The opening ceremony will take place from 20:30 on the 4th of July, next to the Clube Naval de Portimão. The closing ceremony will take place on Sunday, July 7th, at 12:30 pm, at Portimão Arena, where the finals that will define the male and female national children's champions will be disputed.

The other games of this National Meeting take place in the pavilions Gimnodesportivo de Portimão, Escola da Bemposta, Escola Teixeira Gomes, Pedra Mourinha, Escola D. Martinho Castelo Branco, Mexilhoeira Grande and Montes de Alvor, always with free entrance. .

In addition to the titles in dispute, there is also a prize. Fairplay, to be attributed to the male and female teams that show the best ethical conduct throughout this competition, organized jointly by the Portuguese Handball Federation and the Portimão City Council, also responsible for the 4 Nations Cup.

Both initiatives are carried out within the framework of the European City of Sport 2019.
