The idea is that all volunteers actively participate in the Municipality's mission to contribute to positive change in the sustainable management of natural resources.

Through the creation of this Environmental Volunteering Pool, the City Council wants to involve the entire civil society of the municipality «in the protection of environmental values and its environmental heritage, praising, at the same time, the noble principles of volunteering».

The distribution of brochures on the subject, support for the dynamization of the Environmental Center, the carrying out of door-to-door publicity actions and also the participation as a speaker in publicity lectures/events are some of the tasks that these volunteers will have .

At this time, the Exchange has the presence of 11 volunteers who will carry out awareness actions during the month of July (from the 16th) and August, supporting the dynamization of the Loulé Environmental Center during the holiday period in summer.

In partnership with Associação Almargem, they will support the dynamization of the action “We reap what we sow!”, which started on July 9th, with the aim of sensitizing young people to a more holistic view of the world and how each action can have a very negative (or positive) reaction to environmental balance.

"Participating in these initiatives linked to environmental values and climate change also aims to give participants the opportunity to learn a little more about all these issues in order to adopt a more sustainable attitude", says the municipality.

The Environmental Volunteer Scholarship is born from an initiative of the Sustainability and Natural Resources Division, Environment Division (Environmental Center), Operational Unit for Climate Action and Circular Economy, Department of Social Development and Health, Division of Social Cohesion and Innovation, Operational Unit of Health Promotion, Education, Youth and Projects Division and Almargem Association.

«We are absolutely convinced that, in order to guarantee a sustainable future, everyone needs to be involved and, in this sense, we want to combine this need to respond to the climate emergency in which we live with the theme of volunteering, whose personal and institutional benefits are already widely known. », underline the municipal officials.
