Philharmonic of São Brás to help celebrate Bastille Day in France

Algarvian philharmonic has been collaborating with its counterpart in Roche la Molière

The São Brás de Alportel Philharmonic Band goes to Roche la Molière, in France, to visit this French town and play with its local counterpart, the centenary French philharmonic Harmonie des Mineurs.

This will be the first international experience of musical training in São Brasense and takes place as part of a collaboration that began in 2015, when the twinning between the municipalities of São Brás and Roche La Molière began, which would become official in 2017.

«This proposal for musical exchange resulted from the wishes of Miguel Dias, a São Brasense who lives and works in Roche La Molière, and Hervé Freycenon, director of the Center Musical, who visited São Brás de Alportel to launch the challenge and the philharmonic accepted. o”, according to the Algarve association.

This visit was, moreover, long promised, as Harmonie des Mineurs musicians have already visited São Brás de Alportel.

During their stay in France, the Algarve band will have the opportunity to accompany their hostess in the Bastille Day celebrations, between 11 and 14 July 2019.

On the 11th, the Portuguese philharmonic will give a small concert of national repertoire in the French town. On July 12th, the São Brás de Alportel Philharmonic Band will give a concert together with Roche la Molière's Harmonie des Mineurs, as part of the town's summer festivities. Finally, on the 14th of July, the two bands get together again to play in the solemn ceremony of Bastille Day.

In addition to the musical component of the visit's programme, official initiatives, contacts with the Portuguese community and cultural and gastronomic visits by Roche la Molière and Lyon are planned.
