The third stage of the European Footvolley Championship will take place from this Friday, 12th of July, on the beach at Praia dos Pescadores, in Albufeira.

Thus, until Sunday, the 14th, the best European footvolley athletes will be in Albufeira for another stage of the “European Footvolley League”, organized by the National Footvolley Federation – Portugal / European Footvolley League.

Since its formation in 2015, the European Footvolley League annually organizes a European Footvolley Championship: in 2016 it took place in Germany, in 2017 in Albufeira and, last year, in Austria.

«These were the first steps towards a unified competitive structure, surpassing expectations regarding the competitive spectacle that it is and regarding the interest of the general public», says the Câmara de Albufeira.

For this year of 2019 an extra incentive was added: qualification. The new tour concept has increased the number of tournaments from one to four, with three qualifying tournaments leading to a European Championship. So, for the first time in history, 15 countries will have to compete to qualify for the 12 places in the European Championship final.

In addition, the top three countries win an extra place in the finals, which will have a new competitive format. Thus, there will be three stages in three different locations that will decide which countries will obtain the right to fight for the 4th European title in the sport.

Albufeira hosts the III Stage, having as duos representing Portugal: the athletes Miguel Pinheiro, Filipe Santos, Pedro Salvador, Ruben Santos and the duo from Albufeira, Bruno Xavier and Alexandre Oliveira, for one prize money of 2.700 euros.

The competitions will be, on Friday, from 10:00 am to 19:00 pm, on Saturday, between 09:00 am and 19:30 pm and on Sunday, between 13:00 pm and 18:30 pm.

Altogether there will be 22 teams (16 male and 6 female). The men's teams come from several countries: Germany, Austria, Belgium, Spain, France, Netherlands, Israel, Italy, Norway, Portugal, United Kingdom, Sweden and Switzerland.

The women's teams come from Germany, Austria, Italy, Norway, Portugal and Sweden.

In addition to the Portuguese duos, Spain – winner of the 1st stage of EFL2019 – Graz (Austria), Portugal 1 – winner of the 2nd stage of EFL2019 – Schwäbisch Gmünd (Germany) and the duo from France, the 2018 European champions .
