The University of Algarve (UAlg) will have, from the next academic year, 2019/2020, a degree in Bioengineering. The new course aims to prepare professionals with technical and scientific skills to solve multidisciplinary problems in Bioengineering.
“Bioengineering combines biology, biotechnology and engineering. This unique and interdisciplinary field covers a wide range of topics, where the in-depth understanding of engineering makes it possible to solve challenges in the field of biomedical engineering and biological technologies», explains UAlg.
With a duration of 3 years, this new degree requires as entrance exam one of the following sets of exams: Biology and Geology and Mathematics A or Physics and Chemistry and Mathematics A.
«As bioengineering is an area in growing demand, the curriculum of this course allows for internships to be carried out in a business or scientific environment, promoting insertion in multiple professional areas», adds the Algarve academy.
With regard to professional opportunities, graduates in Bioengineering by UAlg may work in hospitals, laboratories or industries, with activity in the areas of Biological Engineering and Biomedical Engineering.
The University of Algarve also emphasizes that «professionals will be able to develop activities related to chemical-biological processes, natural materials and products of marine origin, new products based on molecular biology, biomedical instrumentation, support systems for diagnosis and therapy, among others» .
This new UAlg degree will be taught by the Faculty of Science and Technology, with the support of the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Medicine and the School of Health.
