Algfuturo: New concession contract with Águas do Algarve is «almost good news»

Association wants further clarification on what was agreed between the State and Águas do Algarve

The Algfuturo business association believes that the signing of the water supply and sanitation concession contract between the State and Águas do Algarve, until 2048, «is almost good news for consumers and investors», since not all the outlines of the agreement were disclosed.

According to Algfuturo, "the news is good, because it is guaranteed that there will be no increase in tariffs for the next 30 years and that 300 million euros will be invested."

However, according to the association, «the news is almost good», since «it is essential that the State disclose what is committed by Águas do Algarve» regarding the «scheduling in time on which the expected increases in water consumption needed in the next 30 years, in the different sectors of activity and for human consumption, in view of the Regional Development Plan».

Algfuturo also wants to know "which are the sources of supply to meet these needs, in a normal situation and in the event of an abrupt drought" and, in this case, "which are the planned projects and their respective execution period".

The business association also wants the «guarantee that the tariffs for different uses will be maintained» and the «disclosure, for the period of 30 years, of the works planned for the Waste Water Treatment Plants».
