Caribbean rhythms welcome summer in Olhão

Summer solstice concert joins the Portuguese and Cuban Philharmonic Orchestra

Summer, in Olhão, comes to the sound of Caribbean rhythms, in a concert scheduled for Friday, at 22 pm, at Jardim Pescador Olhanense, which will bring together Cuban singer Eme Alfonso and the Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by conductor Osvaldo Ferreira.

On stage will be an orchestra that, despite having only a few years of existence, has already asserted itself in the national panorama.

«Founded in May 2016, the Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra includes a group of musicians of high technical and artistic standard, awarded in national and international competitions, former members of the European Union Youth Orchestra and also foreign musicians residing in Portugal, who joined in this project to create an orchestra that would be a reference and symbol of quality, performing throughout the national territory», according to the Chamber of Olhão.

Osvaldo Ferreira, artistic director of the orchestra, is «one of the most representative national conductors» and a profound connoisseur of the Algarve reality, as he was linked for a long time to the Orquestra Clássica do Sul and artistic director of the Teatro Municipal de Faro.

«Eme Alfonso, Cuban singer and songwriter, uses her roots to combine them with electronic sounds, world percussion and Afro-Cuban legends. The American NPR and the British station BBC identified it as “a promise of Latin music””, added the municipality.

At Friday's concert, the Cuban woman will interpret her hits and those of Latin American music.

«This is a concert that promises a festive, relaxed and informal atmosphere», promises the Câmara de Olhão.
