Castro Marim installs MUPIS made from recycled plastic

MUPIs represent an investment of 49 thousand euros

The Castro Marim City Council is replacing the Urban Furniture for Information (MUPI) of the municipality. In this first phase, 52 billboards, manufactured with 100% recycled plastic, are replaced.

According to the municipality, the new MUPIs have "a more modern, versatile and technically more suitable model for the needs". The fact that they are made with recycled material fits «in the municipal policy of environmental concern and sustainability and, at the same time, promoting the development of rural and cultural tourism».

The Chamber of Castro Marim adds that the new MUPIs will allow, «in an organized way, the dissemination of heritage and landscape information of the territory, which is more interesting from a tourist point of view, but also the availability of proximity information, more directed to the residents/residents. The structures, aesthetically more attractive, also allow us to revitalize the image of rural agglomerations, reducing the visual “pollution” that is sometimes found in some population centers».

The panels are produced from recycled mixed plastics, a material resistant to corrosion and water and insensitive to chemical agents.

"Thanks to their durability and low maintenance costs, combined with an innovative design, these products replace, in many cases, traditional wood, while allowing the preservation of this natural resource, maximizing sustainability and minimizing environmental impacts", highlights the autarchy.

This first phase represents an investment of 49 thousand euros (+IVA), approved under the PDR2020 (Rural Development Program 2014-2020), 50% co-financed by the EAFRD, following the approval of the “PP+P – Patrimónios e products + next ”

The second phase “will be started shortly” and consists of the acquisition of another 20 MUPIs for some locations and points considered strategic, from a tourist perspective.

The third and final phase consists of the installation of 8 digital MUPIs in the localities of Castro Marim and Altura, and funding is already approved under the Interreg Spain-Portugal 2014-2020 Program, supported by the European Union, 75% co-financed by the FEDER project. FOURTOURS II.
