Carlos Martins was the fastest in Rally Vila de Monchique

Márcio Marreiros, leader of the championship, was in fifth place

Carlos Martins and Daniel Amaral (Mitsubishi Lance Evo VII) won the Vila de Monchique Rally, the fourth race of the Southern Rally Championship, which took place this weekend.

According to the Portuguese Federation of Automobile and Karting, this was “a tough victory, as Fernando Peres and José Pedro Silva (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX) did everything to excel”.

Despite the heated fight, Carlos Martins would finish the seven qualifiers disputed with a 14,7 second advantage.

Peres had to settle for second place, while Fernando Teotónio and Luís Morgadinho (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX) climbed to third place on the podium but, already quite far from the riders ahead, with more than 1m30s behind.

Eduardo Antunes and Hugo Bentes (Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX) finished in fourth place, 37,7s off Teotónio, while Márcio Marreiros (Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX), leader of the Championship, did not go beyond fifth place.

Vítor Vilela and Leonel Fernandes (Citroën Saxo Cup) were the best in both drive wheels with sixth overall position.

The next race of the South Rally Championship is the Flor do Alentejo – Cidade De Serpa Rally, which takes place from 7 to 8 September, organized by SAR – Motorismo.
