Alcoutim advances with the construction of five houses in the center of the village

The Chamber tries, with this investment, to alleviate the problem of the lack of available houses for the younger population

The construction work for a five-slot residential building, in the former CTT building in Alcoutim, has already been awarded and should be completed within about two years.

Alcoutim City Council signed a contract with the company José Quintino in May and will invest around 464 euros plus VAT in this project. At the moment, the only thing missing from the Court of Auditors is for the work to begin.

«Situated next to the castle, in a privileged area of the town, the old building has a high degree of degradation, so the option of the municipality is its full demolition, and the new space that will appear will follow its original layout, as well as the type of coatings, structural and aesthetic proportions, where a multifamily building will be built with five dwellings, four of the T2 type, divided by two floors with an entrance from Rua D. Sancho II, and a T0 type fire, with a single floor and entrance from the street next to the castle and accessible to people with reduced mobility», according to the Alcouteneja municipality.

"This is another measure to fix young people and to solve housing problems, since the lack of housing for sale or rent and the high prices of the few existing ones constitute one of the obstacles to the fixation of the younger layers of the population", explains Osvaldo Gonçalves, president of the Alcoutim Chamber.
