Via Algarviana celebrates 10th anniversary with Reflection Days and walks

Days in Alcoutim, walks throughout the Algarve

GR13 – Via Algarviana celebrates, on May 29, the 10th anniversary of its inauguration. To mark the date, Associação Almargem promotes the Reflection Journeys “The role of the Via Algarviana in Ecotourism in the Algarve”, to be held at Espaço Guadiana, in Alcoutim, with free entry, but with mandatory registration.

Starting at 9:30 am, the various panels propose a reflection from the genesis of the project, recalling the first steps until its inauguration as the Great Pedestrian Route, in 2009.

There will also be space for the analysis of the Via Algarviana's socio-economic contribution to the region, with the participation of entrepreneurs established along the route. The moderation will be in charge of Fúlvia Almeida, director of RUA FM.

“I covered the Via Algarviana” will present the cases of those who completed the 300 kilometers of the route, with testimonies from participants in the pedestrian, mountain biking and trail modalities, moderated by the journalist Elisabete Rodrigues, director of Sul Informação.

In the second part of the event, Anabela Santos, coordinator of Via Algarviana, will present the approved applications that are currently underway: “Via Algarviana – (De)involving the Interior of the Algarve”, financed by Turismo de Portugal and included in the Support Line for Tourism Enhancement of the Interior, and “Revitalizing Monchique, tourism as a catalyst”, developed in partnership with the Algarve Tourism Region, the Algarve Tourism Association and the Municipality of Monchique.

The commemoration day ends with a debate on the future of Via Algarviana, at a round table that brings together various partner entities, with the presence of Filipe Silva, member of the Portuguese Tourism Board, João Fernandes, president of the Algarve Tourism Region and the Algarve Tourism Association, as well as executive representatives from the municipalities of Albufeira, Alcoutim, Aljezur, Lagoa, Lagos, Loulé, Monchique, Portimão, São Brás de Alportel, Silves, Tavira and Vila do Bispo, project partners.

This event has the support of the Municipality of Alcoutim, Continente, Andrade and Andrade, A Ti Marquinhas, Quinta do Freixo and the National Association of Breed Goats in the Algarve, and sponsored by ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal.

During the weekend, June 1st and 2nd, the event “10 years, 10 walks in the Via Algarviana” will take place, with pedestrian walks in various sectors and Route links, from Alcoutim to Cabo de São Vicente, in Sagres.

The event has the sponsorship of ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal and the support of partner municipalities, the Cachopo Parish Council and the companies GeoWalks&Talks, ProActiveTur, Walkin'Sagres and Zen Trekk.

The GR13 – E4 “Via Algarviana” connects Alcoutim to Cabo de São Vicente, in an extension of about 300 kilometers, covering the Low Density territories. The Via Algarviana, at this moment, in addition to its main axis, presents a large network of complementary products, thus encompassing 13 municipalities in the Algarve (Albufeira, Alcoutim, Aljezur, Castro Marim, Lagoa, Lagos, Loulé, Monchique, Portimão, São Brás de Alportel , Silves, Tavira and Vila do Bispo).

The Via Algarviana project has contributed to the development of a network of pedestrian paths in the Algarve, properly signposted and publicized, and has carried out the mission of promoting the natural and cultural heritage of the Algarve interior, with the promotion of accommodation and catering services , taking more and more visitors to the “Via Algarviana Territory” located in the interior of the Algarve.
