Nelson Conceição gives music to Santa Bárbara de Nexe

Accordionist is born in Bordeira

The accordionist Nelson Conceição will present songs from his new album “Descobrindo-me” in a concert scheduled for June 7th, at 21 pm, at the Parish Council of Santa Bárbara de Nexe, municipality of Faro.

Coming from Bordeira, a town full of great accordionists, this record reflects Nelson Conceição's musical inspirations and experiences from his childhood to the present, with a diversity of musical genres that allows for a symbiosis between ancestors and contemporaries, exploring relationships between fado, tango , corridinho and classical music, or manouche/gipsy jazz.

Combined with some virtuosity and improvisation, this work brings an emotional and deep reflection on facts and moments that sparked the musical creation of themes with great significance such as “O last Adeus”, dedicated to his maternal grandmother, or “Stories of a creator”, in honor of João Barra Bexiga.

In addition to being a performer and composer, Nelson Conceição has been dedicating himself to other musical causes such as education, with prizes obtained through his students and the collection and recovery of intangible heritage related to his ancestors, being the coordinator of the Terra de Accordion between 2005 and 2014.

Nelson Conceição was also a producer of several record works, recording most of the great national names in accordion in his studio, and has collaborated in traditions such as Charolas and Popular Marches or in projects such as Moças Nagragadas, Rastemenga and the Mito Algarvio Ensemble Cyneticum.

On the other hand, all these experiences were enriching for this album to have different influences, mostly consisting of original themes developed over the last few years and even awarded internationally.

This show will feature the participation of several guest musicians: Ivo Martins (drums and percussion), Cláudio Sousa (classical guitar), Pedro Sá (bow guitar), João Pedro Cunha and Olena IIyintsova (violins), Luís Henrique (double bass and bass), Cristina Paulo (voice), and also João Espada in the projections.
