The work should only be completed in September, but it will not affect the bathing season, the local authority assures

The requalification work of the seafront of Monte Gordo is already underway and will allow «to renew the gardens and green spaces of this bathing area, implementing new urban furniture and creating new accommodation areas».

In a first phase, the work will focus on clearing the land and demolishing the existing masonry structures.

Later, the gardens will be built, «two demarcated green areas, which will be complemented by interior paths and by the planting of new trees and other plant species adapted to the Mediterranean climate», according to the Vila Real de Santo António City Council.

"Thus, next to the casino, a central square will be created, with two green perimeters, for accommodation, from which four paths will be developed to the surrounding areas, namely Av. Infante D. Henrique, casino and parking lots," he explained the autarchy.

In the other intervention area, to the east of the casino, there is “a semicircular square, with green areas, which will give access to the avenue and the side parking lots”.

The work has an estimated duration of four months, and should be completed «by the end of September».

“Since the work will only take place on the seafront, commercial establishments will not be affected and will be able to maintain normal operation. Likewise, all accesses to the sandy beach of Monte Gordo they will remain fully accessible, since the work will only focus on gardens and adjacent areas», assured the Chamber of VRSA.

The works now in progress aim to complement the work already carried out on the sand, in the last two years, «which provided the beach with a pedestrian walkway with more than two kilometers in length and allowed the renovation of all the restaurants and beach facilities».
