“Projeto Showcase” was one of the novelties of this edition

The facade of the Cathedral of Faro It was once again filled with light and color during the 6th Videomapping Festival which closed the 2019 Algarve Design Meeting last Saturday. The balance of the event, which has grown year after year, «was very positive» and the exhibition which was shown in the former Fábrica da Cerveja, in Faro, received about 1500 visitors a day.

António Lacerda, coordinator of the Algarve Design Meeting, explained to Sul Informação that “with regard to the exhibition, most people thought that this year it was better than the year before, and that had already happened last year. It's a good sign. We had many tourists and people who are not directly related to design visiting the exhibition».

This receptivity from the public “leads us to believe that we should have the exhibitions on display for longer. Maybe, at least a month, in that space at Fábrica da Cerveja».

In this edition of the Algarve Design Meeting, the designers' talent did not just stay at Fábrica da Cerveja and went to Rua de Santo António, where the windows of some of the stores gained new life through the “Projeto Montra”.

«The initiative to decorate the windows was a success. It served to connect the Algarve Design Meeting to the city. The shopkeepers were very satisfied and the works will be open for another week», considered António Lacerda.

Next year, the Algarve Design Meeting celebrates 10 years and «the aim is to improve some aspects. At the videomapping, for example, we intend to have more universities participating, Portuguese and European, creating a kind of open call».

In terms of space, the idea is to keep the Fábrica da Cerveja space, which «from the start, will still be available. We need a space of this kind to receive the exhibitions».

In addition to the exhibition, the Videomapping Festival, between 21 and 25 May, there were also seminars, thematic workshops, outdoor cinema, or a space dedicated to the exhibition and sale of products.

The Algarve Design Meeting was organized by the Superior School of Education and Communication of the University of Algarve in partnership with the National Association of Designers (AND) and the Municipality of Faro.
