The association Al-Portel and the Passos family will promote an informal conversation to debate “The progress and preservation of collective memory in São Brás de Alportel”, namely in the historic center of the village, on Saturday, June 1st, at Largo de São Sebastião, at 17:30 pm.
This joint reflection, of citizen's initiative, will count with the presence of elements of the Municipal Commission for the Preservation of the Historic Center of São Brás de Alportel, created in 2012 to be a «space for dialogue and reflection, study and reference, which constitutes an important help in preserving the identity of the historic centre”, according to the City Council of São Brás de Alportel.
“After seven years of irregular operation, the Commission has a series of problems that prevent it from fulfilling its mission – preserving the identity of this place. It is therefore urgent to reflect on the work done, problems and solutions and on the future of the preservation of this heritage, which is so important to everyone», considers the Association for the Defense of the Environment and Cultural Heritage of São Brás de Alportel.
For Al-Portel, despite the importance of historic centers being "unanimous, both for the political power and for the citizens", the "consensus disappears when it comes to rehabilitating it".
This is what happened in the rehabilitation process of the historic center of São Brás de Alportel, which began in 2016 at Largo de São Sebastião and continued, more recently, at Rua Gago Coutinho.
"The controversy was ignited and left unresolved issues that still await the realization of the council's promises made at the time," recalled the association.
