The firefighters from Aljezur and the INEM team, called to the scene of the crime, still attempted resuscitation maneuvers, but the victim's death was eventually declared at the scene.

However, and despite having tried to hide his identity, the murderer was arrested a few hours later, by the team of investigators from the Criminal Investigation Department of the PJ, with the support of the GNR of Aljezur and Portimão.

According to a note from the Judiciary Police, the detainee is suspected of the crimes of aggravated homicide and possession of a prohibited weapon. The crime was motivated by the "conflict existing between the author and victim, which had been going on for several years," according to the PJ.
