Best of TT compete in Baja de Loulé and there will be no lack of a “renewed” Rúben Faria

Baja de Loulé hits the road on Saturday and Sunday

The Baja de Loulé, counting for the National Off-Road Championship, will be played tomorrow, Saturday, and Sunday, in the municipalities of Loulé, Tavira and Alcoutim. In property, will play Rúben Faria, which is back in competition, but in the SSV (buggy) category.

Officially, the race, which will have its operational base in Jardim das Comunidade, in Almancil, starts this Friday, but the drivers will only hit the road tomorrow.

On Saturday morning, the prologue will be played, «drawn once again in the Vale Judeu area, where the starting order for motorcycles, quads, SSV's and cars will be determined», according to the Clube Automóvel do Algarve, which organizes the event.

«The competitors then leave for the first selective sector, starting and ending in the village of Cortelha. The following day, there will be two selective sectors, disputed alternately between motorcycles/quads/SSV and cars in order to safeguard the best security of the event, intermediated by a moment of assistance in Almancil and a regrouping in the center of S. Brás of Alportel', according to the organizers.

In competition, there will be a hundred teams, divided into Motorcycles, Quads and SSV. This last category, the side-by-side – or buggys – is the one with the most entries, around six dozen teams.

«The favoritism falls among the crew of the Can-Am Maverick, highlighting the names of Vítor Santos/Gregório Pereira (winners in Góis), Pedro Santinho Mendes (winner in Baja TT do Pinhal) or the title-holders João Monteiro/Manuel Pereira . Also in one of these small American machines will be André Vilas-Boas, with the former FC Porto coach once again demonstrating his passion for the world of speed. The race will also count towards Can-Am, Polaris and Yamaha trophies», according to the organization.

Also the return of Rúben Faria, Moncarapachen rider who in 2013 took a historic second place in the Dakar, on motorcycles, has generated a lot of expectation.

The quads have as main favorite Roberto Borrego (Yamaha), who returned this year to the “moto4” competition.

In cars, the leading role falls to the title champions João Ramos/Victor Jesus (Toyota), but also Nuno Matos/Pedro Marcão (Fiat) and Tiago Reis/Valter Cardoso (Mitsubishi).

Baja de Loulé is an organization of the Clube Automóvel do Algarve, under the aegis of the Portuguese Federation of Automobile and Karting and the Portuguese Motorcycling Federation, with the support of the municipalities of Loulé, São Brás de Alportel, Alcoutim and Tavira and the Junta of Almancil Parish and the sponsorship of Solverde – Casinos and Hotels and Wines of the Algarve.
