More than a thousand young people make the basketball party in Albufeira

A total of 198 games will be played

Albufeira is once again the stage for the Youth Basketball Party, which will bring to this municipality more than a thousand athletes, from all over the country, between the 11th and 16th of April.

The 2019 edition of what is «the biggest event of youth sport organized in Portugal», with «about 1200 representatives of the various regional teams of the men's and women's under-14 and under-16 levels expected, which will be in competition, for five days, in six sports pavilions in the city», according to the City Council of Albufeira.

The welcome session will take place on April 11th, from 18 pm, with a concentration in Largo do Município, in front of the City Hall building. «Players, coaches, managers, referees and family members will parade up to Pau da Bandeira, passing by Praça dos Pescadores, Cais Herculano towards Largo Eng.º Duarte Pacheco, where the real party will begin», illustrated the municipality.

This year's presenters are the Portuguese internationals Tomás Barroso, João Guerreiro and Stefan Djukic. Tomás was born in Albufeira, João Guerreiro de Faro and Djukic, who is part of Immortal's senior team, was born in Belgrade, but came to live for Faro from very early on.

After the event is officially launched, the games can start, which will be, in all, 198, all of them with live streaming, a novelty of this 13th edition of the event.

The games, with free entry (limited to the capacity of the pavilions), take place between the 12th and 16th of April at the Albufeira Municipal Pavilions, EBSA Desportivo, ESA Desportivo, Francisco Neves, EB 2,3 Francisco Cabrita and Olhos of water.

The Finals are scheduled for the morning of the 16th, at the Sports Pavilion of the Basic and Secondary School, at the Francisco Neves Pavilion and at the Albufeira Sports Pavilion, where the Closing Ceremony and Awards Ceremony will also take place at 12:00.

Alongside the competition, the All-Star Games will take place, as usual. On Saturday, at 16 pm, the Pavilhão Desportivo de Albufeira welcomes some of the most renowned national players in the sport, who will demonstrate their talent and socialize with the young people participating in the party. The Men's All-Star Game will be broadcast live on RTP00.

On Sunday, the 14th, at 14:40 pm, the stars of national basketball will face some of the public figures known to all of us. «Marta Atalaia, Diogo Beja, António Raminhos, DJ Kamala, Luís Filipe Borges, Cifrão, Diogo Reis, Joana Alvarenga, Pedro Rodil and Vasco Correia will demonstrate their basketball skills in a lively match, which will take place at the Albufeira Sports Pavilion». revealed the Council of Albufeira.

Outside the Albufeira Sports Pavilion there will be a Fun Zone with a giant screen, which will broadcast the games that are taking place in the various pavilions.

The solidarity aspect that has always been associated with the Youth Basketball Party has not been forgotten. On the 15th, at 11:00 am, the Portuguese Basketball Federation and the Municipality of Albufeira will visit the premises of an IPSS in the municipality to deliver the funds raised through the Basket Solidário action, which provides for the donation of 2 euros by all event attendees.

"This year, given the tragic events in Mozambique, the organization of the Festival decided to raise extra funds to join the cause and contribute to helping those in need," added the municipality.

The Basketball Festival is an initiative of the Portuguese Basketball Federation, in partnership with the Municipality of Albufeira and with the support of the Algarve Basketball Association, Imortal Basket Club and Albufeira Basketball Club. The event also has the collaboration of various district basketball associations across the country.
