More than 100 Portuguese wine producers will head to Albufeira for the XI Grande Mostra de Vinhos de Portugal, which will take place between the 3rd and 5th of May, at the Espaço Multiusos de Albufeira (EMA).

At the event, which has the seal of the Confraria Bacchus and the partnership of the Municipality of Albufeira, it will be possible to taste around 900 wine labels from all over the country.

According to the organization, more than 10 thousand people are expected in the three days of the event.

«This is recognized as the largest wine show in the south of the Tagus and for producers it represents an opportunity to make their wines known. With this exhibition, we have been placing the Algarve on the map of nectar lovers in Portugal, we have reinforced the quality of our region's wines as an engine for economic development», explains Carlos Oliveira, chancellor of the Confraria Bacchus de Albufeira.

This year, the event supports the cause of Mozambique. In the wake of a cyclone more than 600 people lost their lives and many thousands are still in need of humanitarian aid. One euro will be raised for each glass sold for wine tasting, as well as for the purchase of chicken from Guia, for sale in the restaurant area.

The total amount raised will be handed over to a humanitarian organization yet to be designated.

On the first day of the event, the seventh Bacchus Wine Contest is held, recognized by the Instituto da Vinha e do Vinho IP, which awards Excellence prizes, Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals in the Red, White, Rosé and Liqueur categories. The awards ceremony takes place at the NAU São Rafael Atlântico hotel.

In addition to tasting the wines, visitors can also participate in workshops, attend the presentation of the Algarve Wine Route and demonstrations of cooking show: Saturday with Chef José Teresa, from the Memórias restaurant, in Albufeira, and Sunday with Chef Ricardo Cabrita from PortoBay Hotels & Resorts. Also on Sunday afternoon, at 17:30 pm, the Grupo Coral Casa do Alentejo Albufeira acts at the EMA.

More than 20 Algarve producers are represented in this exhibition that brings together the main nationally prominent producers. Three producers from Albufeira are represented: Adega do Cantor (owned by Cliff Richard), Quinta do Canhoto (producer of Esquerdino wine) and Quinta da Malaca (producer of Malaca wine).

«The origin of wine in Portugal began in the Algarve, where wines are distinguished by their contact with the sea breeze. Algarve wine is asserting itself for its quality, combining the sun and sea destination with gastronomy and creating an alternative route for wine lovers. New producers, with new wine proposals, is a trend that we have been following and the market already has high quality whites and rosés produced in the Algarve», adds Carlos Oliveira.
