A wind will blow in Lagos, Portimão and Sagres

Festival's motto is World Water Day

Lagos, Portimão and Sagres will receive, on the 22nd, 23rd and 24th of March respectively, the first edition of “Ventania – Festival of Performing Arts of Barlavento”, an act of artistic activism on themes of global citizenship, promoted by Teatro Experimental de Lagos , with the support of the cultural program 365 Algarve.

With World Water Day as its motto, this new Festival proposes to spread throughout the Barlavento Algarvio spectacles and awareness actions with a diversified program, covering the areas of contemporary circus, theater, dance, disciplinary intersections: music/gastronomy, music/cinema , circus/social ecology, seeking to reach audiences of various ages and culturalities.

“Ventania” will occupy conventional presentation spaces such as TEMPO – Portimão Municipal Theater, the Lagos Cultural Center and the Sagres Fortress Auditorium, as well as non-conventional spaces such as the Municipal Markets of Lagos and Portimão, the Centro de Ciência Viva de Lagos, the Jardim da Constitution (Muralha) in Lagos, the Jardim 1º de Dezembro in Portimão, the Cultural Space of the Experimental Theater of Lagos, as well as the gastronomic spaces Mar de Estórias (Lagos) and Faina/Museu de Portimão ( Portimao).

The Festival promises to surprise the public with themes related to the environment and citizenship, in a subtle warning to human detachment about those and what surrounds us: a fragile territory like the Algarve, where the emergence of tourism urges us to have more efficient energy responses , the preservation of the natural and immaterial heritage and the fight against desertification, seeking a balance that is not always easy.

“Ventania” is an original idea by Nelda Magalhães (Experimental Theater of Lagos), with assistance in the creation of Daniela Tomaz (O Corvo ea Raposa Associação Cultural).

It is inserted in the 365 Algarve Program, a structure financed by Turismo de Portugal, hosted by the Municipalities of Lagos, Portimão and Vila do Bispo with the support of the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve and Águas do Algarve.

The vast majority of shows take place outdoors, with free entry. In the case of events with paid entry, the tickets are for sale on the BOL website, in the usual places that adhere to BOL, namely FNAC, Worten, CTT, Youth Hostels, El Corte Inglês, Shops Note! and Serveasy Network and also at the ticket offices of the Lagos Cultural Center and Portimão Municipal Theater, Mar d'Estórias, Lagos Experimental Theater and Faina Restaurant.

What would a world without water look like?

Find out the answer on March 23, at 17 pm, at Teatro Municipal de Portimão

“A Drop of Water in the World” is a creation that intends to send a message of citizenship to children and families, about the reality and dystopia of a world without water.

The creative process emerged between the fifteen dancers of K2 Companhia de Dança and the five percussionists of the Superior School of Music and Performing Arts of Porto, with musical works by Alex Stopa, Owen Condon and Iannis Xenakis, among others.

With an original text by Nuno Preto, the aim of this show aimed at families is to raise awareness of ecological defense and global citizenship through the performing arts.

Tickets cost five euros for the general public and three euros for children under 12 and over 65, are available online and at the TEMPO ticket office, and include an ecological water canteen offered by Águas do Algarve.
