UAlg Careers Fair has opened doors for the future of students once again

More than 700 students signed up for the job fair that took place at the Gambelas Campus

More than 700 students and around 70 companies and entities met at the 4th edition of the UAlg Careers Fair, which took place this Thursday, March 14, at the University of Algarve's Campus de Gambelas.

The event, which has grown from year to year, moved in 2019 to the Gambelas Pedagogical Complex, after the first three editions took place at the Penha Campus.

At the opening ceremony, Paulo Águas, dean of the University of Algarve, highlighted that «the companies responded, once again, to this initiative of the University of Algarve and I believe they are here for their own interest».

The leader of the Algarve academy also highlighted that, from year to year, «we are trying to “freshen up” the event, incorporating the comments we have had, whether from students or companies. This year, we have everything concentrated in one day, in a new space, and we hope that companies leave here satisfied».

André Botelheiro, head of UAlg's Communication and Protocol Office, informed the Sul Informação that "many hundreds of vacancies" were available for jobs and internships.

This year, «we grew in the areas of Information and Communication Technologies, which equaled the number of companies in the area of Tourism. It is a reflection of the transformation of society and also of how the University of the Algarve is a center of knowledge creation in this area», he stressed.

Companies «end up coming here in search of talent, in the most varied areas of training, whether in Communication Sciences, Marketing, Linguistics, or Health. Basically, in the various areas in which the University of Algarve trains professionals» .

With regard to enrolled students, variety also prevailed: «we had TeSP students, finalists, and also masters. And many international students also joined the initiative», revealed André Botelheiro.

Pedro Ornelas, president of Associação Académica, considers that the UAlg Careers Fair is an example of how “companies are increasingly getting closer to UAlg and UAlg opens doors to the business world. The region would not be the same without the business fabric. The business fabric increases the training offer of the University of Algarve, which adapts to the needs of the labor market, and students benefit from it».

The IEFP was represented at the fair by Madalena Feu, who also highlighted the importance of «the approximation of the University of the Algarve to the business fabric».

For the responsible, «this moment that is created here serves for exchange and conversations, between students and companies, which are fundamental to facilitate integration in active life».

UAlg Carrers Fair closed the UAlg Careers Week, which began last Monday, March 11, and had workshops, presentations and lectures, both on the Gambelas Campus, on the Penha Campus and also on the Portimão hub.
