Water, sanitation and garbage tariffs remain the same in Lagos

Price maintenance was approved by the City of Lagos

The tariffs for water, sanitation and urban solid waste remain the same this year in Lagos. This price maintenance was approved at a Chamber meeting.

The proposal was accompanied by the prior opinion issued by the Regulatory Authority for Water and Waste Services (ERSAR), according to which the Municipality should continue its tariff reduction policies in the water sector and promote cost reduction in the sanitation and urban solid waste (MSW).

For this purpose, the municipality has included in the Great Options of the Plan and Budget for 2019 a set of actions and investments aimed at improving the efficiency of the systems and, with this, reducing expenses, such as the construction and replacement of pipelines, remodeling and expansion of the sewage network, the acquisition and replacement of water meters, the deactivation of collective septic tanks, the acquisition of containers for the disposal of MSW, the replacement of vehicles and the installation of more underground ecological islands.

With this resolution, the exemptions and reductions of social and family scope, provided for in the regulations on water, sanitation and urban solid waste, are also maintained in force, which have been benefiting families with low economic resources, pensioners and retirees, families with two dependent minors, large families, families in which the woman is pregnant, as well as various institutions (public education establishments, social solidarity institutions, churches, municipalities, cultural, recreational and sports communities and firefighters).
