Amigas d'A Bola and Escola Gil Eanes represent Algarve at the Women's Football Festival

The regional stage was played by 80 young players

The Algarve teams Amigas d'A Bola and Escola Secundária Gil Eanes qualified, this Wednesday, March 20, for the national stage of the Festivity of Women's Football.

The regional stage was played by 80 young players at the Estádio Algarve, in what was a record number for this event organized by the Algarve Football Association, with the collaboration of the Regional School Sport Coordination.

Athletes from various parts of the region played with each other on four 5-a-side football pitches and a 7-a-side football pitch previously prepared and running simultaneously for about two hours.

The Amigas d'A Bola team, under 13, made up of players from various clubs in the Algarve, will repeat their presence at the National Stage of the Festivity of Women's Football, after having scored three draws in their participation last year.

Representing the Algarve on the 18th of May, at the Jamor Sports Complex, in the Under-15 level, will also be the students from the Secondary School Gil Eanes, from Lagos, who had already been qualified for the final phase two seasons ago.

The Women's Football Festival is an initiative of the Portuguese Football Federation that is in its eighth edition, although in the Algarve this is a project that comes from behind.

«This Party ultimately helps us to continue our process of fostering and developing women's football in the region and we are obviously very proud and pleased when we see Estádio Algarve with its lawn full of children of these ages playing football», says José Borges, regional technical director of the Algarve Football Association.
