Students from Lagos plant trees for a week

First trees were planted on Avenida dos Descobrimentos

Students from the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles, from schools in Lagos, will plant trees this week in various parts of the county, to mark the World Tree Day/International Day of Forests, which will take place. celebrates the 21st of March.

According to the Municipality of Lagos, the initiative aims to "awaken the community to the importance of trees and forest areas in the stability of the climate and in the maintenance of life on Earth."

The activities started this Monday, March 18, with the planting of trees on Avenida dos Descobrimentos, the first of the 11 points chosen by the municipality's environmental services to receive this action.

In addition to pre-school children at Sophia de Mello Breyner Basic School, seniors from the Santa Casa da Misericórdia in Lagos, users of the “Saúde em Movimento” project and members of the municipal government participated in the initiative.

Sophia de Mello Breyner Basic School, Escola da Luz, Santo Amaro Municipal Market, Escola das Naus, Parque da Cidade, Espiche Sports Park, the space surrounding the Children's Center of Odiáxere, Escola Tecnopolis, the Parque Urbano de Bensafrim and the urban area of ​​Barão de São João are the next stops on this tour, which ends on 22 March.

«Apart from the environmental message inherent to the programme, this is also a way of welcoming the arrival of spring», emphasizes Câmara de Lagos.
