1600 students from more than 70 schools in the Algarve participated in the School Sport Athletics Festival, which took place at the Bela Vista Stadium, in Parchal (Lagoa), on 15 March.
Jumping, launching, and running were the main activities of the “Athletics Festival/Mega Sprinter Regional School Sports in the Algarve.
The best classified student-athletes will represent the Algarve region in the Mega Sprinter Nacional, which this year takes place in Faro, on the 5th and 6th of April.
Of the 35 students selected for the national stage, five are students from schools in the municipality of Lagoa and stood out in the Mega Sprinter and Mega Km tests.
The Câmara de Lagoa highlights, in a press release, that «the excellent conditions of the athletics track at the Municipal Stadium of Bela Vista, associated with the municipal strategy of promoting physical and sporting activity, and the close relationship cultivated between the various promoters of the initiative , are some of the reasons why Lagoa was once again chosen as the venue for this Athletics festival in 2019».
This event was organized by the Regional Coordination of School Sports, in partnership with the Municipality of Lagoa and the Algarve Athletics Association.
The test was open to all public and private school establishments in the Algarve region, which completed the School phase and involved students of both genders in School Sport, in the Infant, Initiated and Youth age groups.
Various personalities linked to Sports, representatives of the different Groups of Schools involved, parents and guardians who applauded the participants were present at the “Long Regional Mega Sprint – Athletics Festival”.
