The Urbanization Plan for the Operational and Management Unit of the Technological Park, to be created in an area of 104 hectares, in Gambelas, will be discussed in a public clarification session, next Friday, March 1st,
at 17:00 pm, at the Main Hall of the Town Hall of Faro.
This session will be held within the scope of the public discussion period of the Urbanization Plan for the Operating Unit for Planning and Management of the Technological Hub (PU of UOP3).
«The UOP3 UP covers an area of approximately 104 hectares, near the university center of Gambelas, in the parish of Montenegro, of which 6,6 hectares correspond to the Algarve International Technology Park (PTIA)», explains the Chamber of Faro.
This Urbanization Plan comes to frame the future construction of a technological park next to the Campus das Gambelas. The process of creating the Technological Park started a few years ago, and the different partners of the project, including the University of Algarve, decided that it would be more profitable to move forward, now, with the Technological Pole component, the Algarve Tech Hub, which will be born at the Penha Campus.
However, the idea of the Technological Park continued, as explained by António Branco, then rector of the University of Algarve, in November 2017, in an interview with Sul Informação.
At the time, António Branco explained that the Park is associated with very heavy logistics. «This is a project that involves the Municipal Master Plan, as well as finding a great level of private investment, among other things».
The Technological Park has as objectives, according to the Chamber of Faro, «provide network between Universities, established companies, entrepreneurs, investors and investment partners, promote cooperation with national and international knowledge and technology transfer entities, the provision of human resources and specialized value-added services to support companies, offer quality facilities ( incubator center, offices, research laboratories) and make the most of the proximity to the University of Algarve and consolidate the transfer of technology and knowledge to the business fabric».
