Loulé Ravens revive baseball in the Algarve

New team will participate in the national championship of the sport

The Algarve will once again have a baseball team. The Loulé Ravens will debut in competition next Saturday, February 23, at 14:00, at Campo de Vale de Lobo, in a friendly match against the Capitals of Lisbon.

The new team is part of the Baseball section, of the North American Sports Association, and aims to «develop the sport in the region» and promises to «achieve a competitive level of excellence».

The Ravens will participate in the National Championship of the National Baseball Circuit, together with 8 teams from all over the country, the only one being south of Almada.

The team is made up of Portuguese but also elements of other nationalities. There are also several Portuguese-Venezuelan elements residing in the municipality of Loulé.

For the Algarve, the sporting season itself starts in March, with the National Championship.

It has been «almost a decade» that Loulé and the region did not have a team of this modality. Between 1998 and 2008, the Tigres de Loulé Baseball Club were active, «achieving countless national and international titles, namely national championships, Portuguese cups, Iberian cups, among other trophies. Now, Loulé is once again featured in Portuguese baseball», recalls the new club.

The Ravens are supported by the Municipality of Loulé.
