Construction of the D. Dinis School in Quarteira has already been awarded, but the pavilion will have to wait

International public tender for the construction of the sports pavilion was deserted

The EB 2,3 D. Dinis School, in Quarteira, will be built by the company Gabriel Couto, but the sports pavilion, which was also included in the international public tender launched by the Câmara de Loulé, in September, will have to wait, since no construction company has submitted proposals for its execution.

According to the contract published on the Base.gov platform, signed on January 22, the school's construction work will take 630 consecutive days and will cost 6,2 million euros plus VAT.

However, "there is still no date for the start of the work", since "the start of construction depends on the approval of the Court of Auditors", said Vítor Aleixo, mayor of Loulé, to the Sul Informação.

The municipality had already awarded the work in December 2017, for 4,8 million euros, but the contractor who won the tender "withdrew, claiming that market prices had skyrocketed." as you explained, in October of last year, Vítor Aleixo, mayor of Loulé, to the Sul Informação.

This led the municipality to launch an international public tender, worth 12 million euros, in September, which brought together the work of the school and also that of the new Pavilion Gimnodesportivo de Quarteira, to be built at the rear of the educational establishment.

However, none of the competitors submitted a proposal for the construction of the pavilion, which was part of a different lot. Neither company submitted a proposal to jointly carry out the two contracts.

To our newspaper, Vítor Aleixo assured that "a new tender will be launched shortly just for the construction of the pavilion."

Regarding D. Dinis School, the entire building will be built from scratch, but the entrance to the school will be in the same area where it is now: in front of the car park.

The entrance will have a large atrium. On the left side will be the administrative spaces. The right side will house the two wings with classrooms and a Resource Center. In the reception area, there will be four elements with images of the old school to perpetuate the memory of what that space was.

Construction company Gabriel Couto explains that the requalification project foresees adapting the number of classrooms to the current school population, resulting in a total of 33 spaces, divided into 24 classrooms, two EVT rooms, one ET room, two laboratories, two ICT rooms and two music rooms.

At the end of this refurbishment project, «the new school will have a total gross construction area of almost 7.000 square meters and a total area of 12.000 square meters for landscaping», adds the construction company.

The project has the signature of the architect Pedro Mendonça, from the “beAbstract” architecture studio, who considers that “its feasibility reflects a posture of excellence of an entire municipality and an entire region in order to promote the development and consolidation of knowledge , allowing greater motivation to professionals and students».

Gabriel Couto has already built other projects in the Algarve, such as the High Performance Center “The Campus”, located in Quinta do Lago, and was also involved in the contracts for the Mar Shopping Algarve and the Longevity Health & Wellness Hotel, in Alvor.
