Film cycle honors Vítor Reia-Baptista throughout the year

First session is on February 20th

An extensive film cycle, in honor of Vítor Reia-Baptista, professor at the University of Algarve already deceased, takes place throughout this year, in Faro.

Vítor Reia-Baptista was a «prominent researcher of film literacy in Portugal, involved in numerous national and international projects in this area of ​​study and one of the researchers who was at the origin of the Center for Research in Arts and Communication (CIAC)».

Organized by the Film Club of Faro in partnership with the University of Algarve and the Center for Research in Arts and Communication, this tribute cycle has eight sessions that will take place every month, on Wednesdays, extending until January 2020, the month in which to mark the anniversary of the birth of Vítor Reia-Baptista, with the film “L'Âge d'Or” (Luis Buñuel) closing this cycle.

The films, which he liked and about which he spoke widely in classes, in his research, social and friendship circles, will be presented by colleagues and friends and will be attended by different guests each month for a post-film conversation.

Also noteworthy is the program for the month of May, planned in conjunction with the Communication Sciences course at the University of Algarve, created at the School of Education and Communication by Professor Vítor Reia-Baptista.

The first session will take place on February 20, 2019, at 15:00 pm, at the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth (IPDJ), with the film “Viridiana” by Luis Buñuel and will feature a presentation by Mirian Tavares, CIAC Coordinator.

The cycle “Vítor Reia-Baptista: Heretico e Libertário” has the support of the Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual, the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth and the Municipality of Faro.

Tickets cost 4 euros for the public and 1 euro for members of the Cineclube de Faro. Students, accompanying professors and teachers present in the Youth Cinema School project (JCE) have free admission.
