The Left Block is concerned about the lack of health professionals in the municipality of Lagoa and also the lack of teachers at the Basic School 1,2,3 in Guia. The Blocist Parliamentary Group questioned the Government about these two situations, in questions addressed to the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education.
In questions sent to the Ministry of Health, this Friday, deputy João Vasconcelos "questions whether it will urgently arrange the placement of doctors, nurses, health technicians and operational assistants needed in the Lagoa Health Center and its respective Health Extensions', namely that of Parchal, 'which does not have any operational assistant'.
The Algarve deputy stresses, in the document addressed to the Government, that “there is a great lack of human resources, doctors, nurses, technical and operational assistants throughout the county, at the Health Center and respective extensions. One of the very serious situations has to do with the Parchal Health Extension. The collection of treatment residues and sanitation are done on Mondays and Fridays in the morning, thus leaving a long interval without these basic services, providing the degradation of waste and the occurrence of strong odors, due to the fact that there is no assistant operational on site'.
Vasconcelos, who recently met with the Coordinator of UCSP Lagoa at the Health Center, Paulo Simões, in an initiative of the local political organization of the party, adds that «the Community Support Team in Palliative Care of ACES do Barlavento Algarvio, headquartered in Lagoa Health Center, articulated with the Hospital de Portimão, currently consists of only one nurse and two doctors. This team aims to monitor and treat bedridden patients at home in all the municipalities of Barlavento».
According to the Blocist, the team demands “more medical and nursing staff – at least one more doctor and two nurses – to be able to respond to patients at home, as they deserve to be treated with dignity so that they have a life with minimal suffering until to his last days of life. They also complain about the lack of psychological support due to the difficult situations they face in their daily lives, which causes them great physical and psychological strain».
According to the Left Block, in the municipality of Lagoa, in a universe of 23.589 registered users, 6282 do not have a family doctor, which corresponds to 26.63% of users without a family doctor.
Regarding the lack of teachers at Guia Basic School 1, 2, 3, which belongs to the Albufeira Poente Schools Group, the question was addressed to the Government by João Vasconcelos and Joana Mortágua.
The deputies "want to know if there are other situations of lack of teachers in other schools and what steps the Ministry of Education is considering taking in this case to ensure that students will have classes corresponding to their curriculum".
According to the Blocistas, there is a lack of teachers in this school «namely in two English schedules (one complete and one incomplete) and one in Geography (incomplete). These timetables are unfilled since the beginning of the school year, which has led several 3rd cycle classes to be without classes since September».
The Left Block adds that "although the school has tried several times to do this recruitment, it has not been successful, and the students continue without classes."
In a note sent to newsrooms, the party "considers that the right to education of these students is seriously affected and the lack of teachers has become one of the most important problems in the Portuguese education system."
The Blocist parliamentarians also want to know if Tiago Brandão Rodrigues, Ministry of Education, foresees some form of curriculum reinforcement to compensate for the classes that did not exist.
