Secretary of State for Health visits Oral Health consultations in Lagos and Loulé and Emergency Room in Faro

ARS Algarve announces that Oral Health consultations will open in all health centers in the region in 2019

The Secretary of State for Health is visiting, this Tuesday, 15 January, two of the five Oral Health Consultations of the National Health Service in the Algarve, those of the Lagos and Loulé Health Centres. To end her visit, Raquel Duarte will also go to the Emergency Department of the University Hospital Center of the Algarve, in Faro.

The Algarve Regional Health Administration (ARS) has five Oral Health offices working with Dentists and Dental Assistants, who provide dental consultations in the Health Centers of Faro, Lagos, Loulé, Portimão and Tavira, for users referred through the Family Doctor or another Health Center Doctor.

Having started in November 2017, in the Health Centers of Faro, Portimão and Tavira, and in September 2018, in Lagos and Loulé, the number of these Oral Health Consultations «tripled in the Algarve Health Centers Group in the space of one year, from 2190 consultations, in 2017, to 5853 consultations in 2018 (January to December)», reveals the Algarve ARS.

Last November, a collaboration protocol was signed between ARS Algarve and the Municipal Councils of São Brás de Alportel and Lagoa, with a view to providing Oral Health Consultations in these municipalities during 2019.

Later this year, this service will also be implemented in the Vila Real de Santo António Health Center and in the other municipalities, «thus covering the entire Algarve until the end of the current year», announces the ARS.
