Fight against domestic violence inspires single released today by Susana Travassos

The song, which serves as an anticipation for the Algarve singer's first album of originals, was composed by Luísa Sobral

Susana Travassos released today the single “Não doeu”, a song written by Luísa Sobral that draws attention to domestic violence. This work is an anticipation of the new album of originals by the Algarve artist, “Pássaro Palavra”, which will be out on February 22nd.

This is the first authorial work, recorded in Buenos Aires, which has its own compositions and unpublished songs by Luísa Sobral, Melody Gardot and Mili Vizcaíno.

«One day Luísa heard me sing “La llorona”, a theme from the Mexican songbook, and she told me that someday she would like to compose a song like that for me. When I was thinking about this CD, Luísa was the first composer I contacted and she presented me with this strong theme, which talks about domestic violence. Unfortunately, a topic that is so current that it needs to be talked about and fought by everyone», according to Susana Travassos.

“No Doeu” is “a strong and at the same time delicate theme, with sophisticated arrangements, with a subtle and at the same time poignant lyric, which narrates the feeling of the woman who remains in an abusive relationship without being able to find a way out”.

The song emerges as an alert to a drama that is very present in contemporary society, considering that 137 women are killed every day in the world, victims of domestic violence.

"There are many women in that situation right now, we hope that this song can serve as an encouragement for a request for help," added the artist from Vila Real de Santo António.

The clip for this song was directed by graphic artist Poll Turrents and Carlos J. Marin, filmed in Barcelona, and is available for listening and downloading..

APAV (Portuguese Association for Victim Support), Brazilian Union of Women, National Institute of Las Mujeres of Argentina and the Ecuadorian Institution PreViMujer – Prevention of Violence against Women will make use of this work of art and join this release recognizing the relevance for raising awareness of this social issue.
