Faro promotes an unprecedented European meeting to talk about rooftops

Meeting will have participants from Cyprus, Netherlands, Italy, Czech Republic, Belgium, Austria and Spain

The 1st European Rooftops Meeting will be held in Faro on the 10th and 11th of January. This is the first time that such an initiative has taken place.

As explained by the Chamber of Faro, which promotes the meeting, the event's objective is to «create synergies between owners/managers of rooftops (terraces), architects, cultural agents, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders who, directly or indirectly, develop work on rooftops in Faro and in the Algarve, with some of the success stories coming from all over Europe».

«The weather conditions, associated with the characteristics of the constructions in the Algarve region (usually with roof terraces and straight lines), create a landscape framework that can be explored and developed in terms of sustainability, cultural development and a reason for attracting numerous activities with a great impact in a more qualified tourism», considers the municipality.

The Chamber of Faro he says that upon realizing the “lack of knowledge and exchange of experiences between the various agents” he decided to “move forward with this 1st meeting which, in addition to the participation of local and regional stakeholders, will feature participants from Cyprus, Netherlands, Italy, Republica Czech, Belgium, Austria and Spain, with the aim of creating a network for sharing experiences and knowledge, as well as potential partnerships between the various entities and entrepreneurs present».

This 1st European Rooftops Meeting starts on the morning of the 10th with a visit by the participants to the historic center of Faro and to “several locations with potential to be used in future initiatives”.

The afternoon will be filled with a meeting of brainstorming which will have representatives from the City Council of Faro and Boiling (organizing the ROEF Festival in Amsterdam) as hosts and coordinators of the discussion of ideas between the various participants.

At 20:00, there will be a conference-dinner with the participation of Mattijs Maussen, an «experienced professional linked to the development of sustainable work strategies in the European Union who, among other initiatives, during 21 years of work, was involved in the coordination of 16 different European Capitals of Culture, having also been a consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers, also counting on the performance of workshops, seminars and conferences in more than 60 countries», highlights the Chamber of Faro.

For the 11th, a workshop, where issues such as the creation of a European rooftop network, forms of network cooperation will be debated, or what is the positive impact that a Rooftops Festival can have on urban policies in the future.

At the end of the meeting, at 17:30 pm, the results and conclusions of this 1st European Rooftops Meeting will be presented, at the Restaurant-Bar “O Castelo”, in the historic area of ​​the city.
