105 kilos of razor clams and clams seized in Tavira

Illegal fishermen were dragging on the beaches and spearfishing in the estuary without a license.

80 kilograms of razor clams, 25 of clams, four illegal hand hooks and one xalavar were seized yesterday, January 22, on the beaches of Tavira, Barril and Barra da Fuzeta, as part of an action by the Maritime Police of Tavira aimed at the arts fishing.

The illegal fishermen, who were dragging along the beaches and spearfishing in the estuary “without any kind of licensing”, fled as soon as they saw the Maritime Police, who could not identify them.

All bivalves were returned to their natural habitat as they were still alive.

In this operation, four agents, a boat and a 4×4 vehicle from the Local Command of the Maritime Police of Tavira participated in this operation.

The target species for this type of art and hunting are clams and razor clams.

The infringement detected corresponds to a fine that can range from 748.20 euros to 49.897.57 euros, clarifies the PM.
