Tourist in trouble on a cliff on the coast of Lagoa assisted by the Maritime Police and Fire Department

29-year-old Brazilian was trying to descend a path on the edge of the cliff

A tourist who was in trouble on a cliff on the coast of Lagoa, close to Marinha beach, motivated the intervention of the Maritime Police and the wide-angle team of Firemen from Lagoa, but he ended up getting away with it.

This Saturday, at 16:45 pm, an agent of the local Command of the Maritime Police of Portimão, on duty at the Marinha beach, was warned by a stand-up paddle practitioner that he had seen «a person in difficulties, at risk of falling, halfway up a cliff to the west of that same beach».

The elements of the Maritime Police moved to the top of the cliff and, as it was a place with no access from the beach, the support of the Lagoa Volunteer Fire Brigade, with a wide-angle team, was requested.

The Ferragudo Lifeboat Station and its crew were also activated in the event of a fall.

However, when he arrived at the scene, the Maritime Police picket found that the victim, a 29-year-old Brazilian citizen, "who had been in difficulties because he had gone down a path along the cliff side", was already at the top of the cliff. safely, thanks to the help of others who were nearby.

Although this case ended well, the National Maritime Authority recalls that "the cliffs are in constant erosion with the associated risk of landslides, so, for safety reasons, people must keep away from risk zones, namely, at the base and at the top of the cliffs». And, above all, they should not try to descend or climb the cliffs.
