Parking meters in Faro are free in december

Paid parking on the streets of Faro is suspended during the current month

The parking meters in Faro are not working, and he found the Sul Informação, until the end of December are free. It's a kind of anticipated Christmas gift to the Farenses.

But as of January, parking on the streets of the Algarve capital will be paid again.

A source from the Mayor's Office told our newspaper that "the contracts with the surface parking companies came to an end in November and the Municipality decided not to renew them".

“We will manage these contracts internally. Initially, the Chamber will manage the paid parking, but in the future, it may pass the management over to AmbiFaro», he added.

The payment "enters into force again from January", said the same source. This situation only covers surface parking, in the streets and avenues of the city and which are concessioned by the municipality, not having to do with underground parking, which continue to be paid for. Surface parks are also not covered which, although charged, are concessioned by entities other than the Chamber of Faro, as are the cases of the Largo do Carmo parks and next to the Clube Naval de Faro.

For residents of Faro and for all who travel to the city, this situation was a surprise, as the responsible entities (the concessionary company, the PSP or the City Council) did not make any announcement to the population.

One resident said: "I didn't have any information that the parking meters weren't working and it wasn't until I parked and went to pay that I noticed they were out of order."

By the way, this is the message that is pasted on the parking meters, having as author the autarchy of Faro: "Equipment temporarily out of order".

The problem is that, in some of the parking meters, the warning has never been pasted or has already been torn off, as verified by the Sul Informação, while, despite the payment locations being out of service, the pay parking signage remains clearly visible in the same locations.

And this forces unwary motorists to have to walk from meter to meter, with coins in hand, until they reach the conclusion that, after all, there is no way to pay for parking.
