João Oliveira wins again Algarviana Ultra Trail

Winning athlete set new record

João Oliveira, athlete of the Chaves Run Team – Dragões de Chaves Sports Association, won, for the second consecutive year, the Algarviana Ultra Trail (ALUT), which ended this Sunday, December 2, by completing the 300 kilometers of race in 41 hours and 50 minutes.

The athlete thus set a new record in the race, as he managed to finish the course in one hour and 14 minutes less than last year.

Upon arrival at Cabo de São Vicente, in Sagres, João Oliveira confessed that the most difficult part of the race «were the weather conditions».

In second place was Japanese Iino Wataru, who has already participated in several events on the world circuit and finished ALUT in close to 46 hours.

João Faustino, running for Pronto a Comer A Cozinha Portimão, closed the podium, taking more than 54 hours to make the route between Alcoutim and Sagres.

On the female side, the French Sylvie Mathis was the big winner, with more than 60 hours of competition. Patrícia Carvalho, from the Algarve, secured second place on the women's podium, after having been the only woman to participate in the competition last year.

As for the team category, “Helpo@ALUT”, which ran through the Monchique reforestation and was made up of Paulo Alves, Francisco Dias, Rosa Silvestre and Marcelo Dias, was the winner.

In second place was “ATR -Algarve Trail Running” (Ana Peixinho, José Pina, Ivo Roque and Lúcio Sustelo), followed by “LouléGest”, consisting of Marisa Francisco, Nuno Martins, João Martins and Vicelio Mendes.

ALUT traveled the Via Algarviana, from Alcoutim to Sagres. The second edition was organized by the ATR –Algarve Trail Running Association, with the support of the Algarve Tourism Region, ANA –Aeroportos de Portugal and the Almargem Association.
