The Union of Parishes of Faro it is already twinned with its counterpart Madalena and Samaões, from the municipality of Chaves, in Trás-os-Montes. The protocol that made this connection official was signed on Friday, in the main hall of the Humanitarian Association of Flavienses Firefighters and opens the door to the joint promotion of EN2.
This National Road, moreover, is the common heritage of Faro and Chaves, despite the distance that separates the two municipalities, as this road begins and ends there – kilometer 0 is in Chaves and 738,5 is in Faro.
Thus, the protocol between the two Parish Unions contemplates “marketing and territorial promotion, especially in the enhancement and dissemination of the EN2”.
The agreement also includes creating synergies, gains in scale and sharing efforts in the realization of common projects between both parishes, such as history and culture, sports activities, tourism, the promotion of identity, tradition, handicraft and endogenous products, economic and business development and citizenship and solidarity between communities».
To Bruno Lage, president of the União das Freguesias de Faro “this twinning is of great importance, as it will be an asset for both territories, as it is the objective of both Parishes to dynamize and develop exchange actions in the cultural, sporting, educational, tourist and economic areas”.
The Farense mayor believes that the agreement “will serve to bring two different points of the country closer together, but connected by one of the biggest European roads, the mythical EN2, allowing an exchange of experiences, customs and many other areas of common interest, in a close relationship which is intended to be close and intensified».
João Pinto, president of the Union of Parishes of Madalena and Samaões, refers, in turn, that the protocol “will contribute to the strengthening and emergence of initiatives that stimulate and support the development of economic and cultural activities, as well as the increase of their social dynamics, without forgetting and the development of initiatives aimed at promoting and publicizing the EN2 as a tourist route of regional and national interest».
To mark the signing of the twinning agreement, a friendship tree was planted at the headquarters of the Union of Parishes of Madalena and Samaões.
