Basketball team plays playoff against Belgium in Albufeira

This is FIBA's first men's game in the Algarve.

The National Basketball Team will play, in Albufeira, one of the decisive games for the qualification for Eurobasket 2021. The match that will oppose the team from the corners to Belgium is scheduled for the Pavilhão Desportivo de Albufeira, on December 2, at 17:00 , with live broadcast on RTP2.

This is FIBA's first men's game in the Algarve. Currently, the national basketball team is in the first place of group C in qualifying with one victory and one defeat.

The team led by Mário Gomes, Nuno Manarte and Sérgio Ramos will train in Albufeira from 26 November until the day of the game.

In Belgium, in the opening round, the Portuguese team lost by just one point (66-65). After Portugal-Belgium, the accounts of group C are closed on 21 February 2019, with Portugal traveling to Iceland.

The Municipality of Albufeira emphasizes that «basketball is one of the sports that has stood out the most» in the municipality. Currently, according to the local authority, there are «more than 360 practicing athletes» and the Municipality «hosts annually the Youth Basketball Festivals, which bring to the council about 1200 representatives from the various regional teams of the under-14 and under-16 male and female.

The city of Albufeira has also hosted four editions of the Super Cup of the sport (2009, 2010, 2013 and 2014).

Currently, Albufeira is represented in the Portuguese Basketball League by Imortal Basket Clube, which this year joined the top basketball division, after winning the title of national champion of Proliga 2017/2018.

Tickets for Portugal – Belgium can be purchased from 20 November at the Pavilhão Desportivo de Albufeira or at the two clubs in the municipality that promote the sport: the Imortal Basket Club and the Albufeira Basketball Club.

Each ticket costs 2 euros, an amount that will revert, in equal parts, to the two clubs.
